The Flemish Centre of Expertise in Suicide Prevention (VLESP) analysed Federal Police data for the first semester of 2020, and compared these with the same period in 2019. The comparison showed yielded the following initial insights:
- In the months of March, April, May and June of the year 2020, there were fewer suicide attempts (requiring police intervention) than in the same months in 2019.
- The number of suicides in March 2020 was equal to the number in March 2019, in April and May 2020 lower than in April and May 2019, and in June 2020 higher than in June 2019.
