Excess Mortality in a Nationwide Cohort of Cancer Patients during the Initial Phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Belgium [Silversmit et al. 2021]

In a study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers, & Prevention, Geert Silversmit and colleagues from the Belgian Cancer Registry, analysed excess mortality in a Belgian cancer cohort during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. They observed considerable excess mortality in the Belgian cancer cohort, but found that the pattern of excess mortality was not markedly different from that observed in the general population.
