COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Belgian nursing homes [Vandael et al. 2022]

Archives of Public Health published a research article by Vandael and colleagues on COVID-19 incidence, hospitalization and mortality among Belgian nursing home residents and staff. The study builds on national surveillance data covering the period between April and December 2020. Results show that the peak in prevalence occurred two weeks after the peak in incidence numbers for both waves. Relatively more residents were hospitalized in wave 2 compared to wave 1. Although wave 2 lasted longer than wave 1, the rise in mortality was less high compared to wave 1.
